Privacy at Tariif

Tariif is a home electricity cost helper. Here we explain what the page does with your choices and when we measure returning visits on a voluntary basis.

My settings

If you wish, you enter a grid package, main fuse, supplier margin, monthly fee and postcode. These are sent to our server in the URL request to display the view you asked for. If you save your choices, they also stay in your browser's local storage until you delete them in the “My settings” view or clear your browser data. The basis for calculating the view and processing your choices is our legitimate interest in providing the free service you asked for. We do not create a user account from them or store your choices as a separate customer profile.

The URL request may appear in your browser history and in the technical access logs of Zone's web server together with your IP address. Please do not enter your exact address; a postcode is enough for location.

Weather and external sources

On the server, the postcode is linked to a representative point of the area. When requesting a weather forecast, our server sends the rounded coordinates of that point to MET Norway; your browser's IP address and postcode are not sent there directly. We also use the public XML weather data of the Estonian Environment Agency. Electricity spot prices come from Elering.

Technical cookies and logs

The page uses Laravel's session and XSRF cookies for the page to work and to protect requests. A session lasts up to 120 minutes; the cookies are for HTTPS and no advertising cookies are used. Our web host is Zone Media OÜ. Zone rotates web server logs automatically; system backups are kept for up to 14 days. From 15.09.2026 we rotate the application error log as up to 14 daily files. The earlier combined preview log may contain older error information; we keep it for checking the transition until 29.09.2026, not longer. The purpose of processing the logs is the operation of the page, investigating failures and security; the basis is our legitimate interest in providing a reliable service. When the logs are no longer needed, they are deleted by rotation.

Daily counter without an identifier

For each load of the home page we increase a single daily total on our server: how many page loads there were, how many came from a robot and how many from our own device. In addition, 1.5 seconds after opening, the page sends one empty message confirming that the page was opened by a real browser, not a script. These records contain no IP address, browser identifier or any field that would distinguish you — only the date and numbers. Nothing is stored in the browser for this, so it needs no cookie consent.

Separately, we count how many times a day Tariif was reached from another site. We keep only the name of the referring site (for example google.com) and the number of repeats; the rest of the address, including search terms, is discarded. The legal basis is our legitimate interest in knowing whether and from where the service is used. As the records are aggregate numbers without personal data, they cannot be linked to you or deleted separately at your request.

Voluntary visit measurement

Only if you choose so, we store a random measurement identifier in your browser. Our database receives only a keyed hash of it, the date of the first visit, the time of consent and of the last request, and the dates on which the same browser came to the Tariif home page. This lets us see how many consenting browsers return within 7 days. We do not add the postcode, home settings, page URL or electricity prices to the measurement table. This is not a count of all visitors, but a sample of browsers that gave consent.

The legal basis for measurement is your consent. You can withdraw it via “Measurement choice” in the footer of the home page: we stop new measurement requests and delete the records linked to that identifier from the active database. Backups expire within 14 days. The browser identifier is renewed after 30 days. On the server we delete the old identifier and its visit days with a daily clean-up, generally after 30 days and at the latest within 31 days of the first measured visit. If browser storage is disabled, measurement does not start. We do not use any third-party analytics or advertising service.

Contact and your rights

If you e-mail us, we use the information in the message to answer your question and keep the correspondence until the question and any follow-up questions are resolved, unless the law requires longer retention. You may ask to access, correct or delete your data and object to processing based on legitimate interest. You can withdraw consent at any time. Write to kontakt@tariif.ee.
