Frequently asked questions

How much does it cost to charge an MG at home?

The spot price changes every 15 minutes and the night-time network fee is lower than the daytime one. The calculator prices every 15 minutes of charging at the final price of that time and finds the cheapest continuous slot before the charging window ends.

Example: an MGS5 64 kWh uses 7 kWh from the battery for a 40 km drive. With a 12% charging loss, charging takes 8 kWh from the meter. Charging the battery from 20% to 80% takes 42 kWh from the meter, or almost four hours with an 11 kW charger.

The ZS EV (except Long Range), MG4 51 kWh and MGS5 49 kWh charge from a single phase at 6.6 kW. Other MG models charge at 11 kW.

Battery and consumption data for the models come from EV Database.

What time is it cheapest to charge an MG electric car at home?

It depends on the day, because the spot price changes every 15 minutes. The calculator shows today’s and tomorrow’s cheapest time from the published prices. At night the Võrk 2 and Võrk 4 network packages have a lower network fee.

Does my MG charge at 6.6 kW or 11 kW?

The ZS EV (except Long Range), MG4 51 kWh and MGS5 49 kWh have a single-phase 6.6 kW charger. Other MG models charge from three phases at 11 kW. If you are not sure, choose by battery size — then the calculator does not allow more than the car can take.

Does a 22 kW wallbox make charging faster?

MGs that charge from three phases take up to 11 kW at home, so a 22 kW wallbox adds no speed. The ZS EV (except Long Range), MG4 51 kWh and MGS5 49 kWh charge from a single phase at up to 6.6 kW: they get 3.7 kW from a 3×16 A wallbox and 6.6 kW from a 22 kW (3×32 A) one.

Does the price include the network fee?

Yes. The price is the final price: spot price, seller’s margin, network fee, electricity excise, renewable energy fee and VAT. You can choose your own package and contract in “My settings”.
