Frequently asked questions
How much does it cost to charge a Tesla at home?
The Tesla app shows the charging cost at a single price that you entered yourself. With a spot price contract, though, the price changes every 15 minutes, and at night the network fee is lower too. The calculator prices every 15 minutes of charging at the real final price of that time and finds the cheapest continuous slot before the charging window ends.
Example: a Model 3 RWD (2023–2025) uses 5.4 kWh from the battery for a 40 km drive. With a 12% charging loss, charging takes 6.1 kWh from the meter and lasts just over half an hour on an 11 kW wallbox. A Model Y Long Range needs 6.8 kWh for the same drive.
The Model 3 and Model Y charge at up to 11 kW at home. The older Model S and X (75D, 100D, Long Range 2016–2020) can charge at up to 16.5 kW, but from a regular 3×16 A wallbox they also get 11 kW. The 2013–2016 Model S 85, 85D and 90D had an optional 22 kW charger, which also needs a 3×32 A wallbox. Charging from a socket or a single-phase connection takes several times longer, so choosing the cheapest slot matters more.
There are 2,559 Tesla electric cars registered in Estonia (Transpordiamet, 01.09.2026). Battery and consumption data for the models come from EV Database.
What time is it cheapest to charge a Tesla at home?
It depends on the day, because the spot price changes every 15 minutes. The calculator shows today’s and tomorrow’s cheapest time from the published prices. Night is usually cheaper also because the Võrk 2 and Võrk 4 packages have a lower network fee at night.
Why does “Total Spent” in the Tesla app show a different amount?
The Tesla app multiplies the charged kWh by a single price that you entered in the app yourself. With a spot price contract, every 15 minutes has its own price, plus the network fee and taxes. Tariif.ee works out the charging cost with those prices.
How do I set the charging start time on a Tesla?
In the Tesla app open Charging → Schedule and enter the start time shown by the calculator. You can do the same from the charging menu on the car’s screen.
Does the price include the network fee?
Yes. The price is the final price: spot price, seller’s margin, network fee, electricity excise, renewable energy fee and VAT. You can choose your own package and contract in “My settings”.
