Frequently asked questions

How much does it cost to charge a Volkswagen at home?

The cost of charging an ID model or e-Golf depends on the time of day. The spot price changes every 15 minutes and the night-time network fee is lower than the daytime one. The calculator prices every 15 minutes of charging at the final price of that time and finds the cheapest continuous slot before the charging window ends.

Example: an ID.4 Pro (2023–2026) uses 6.9 kWh from the battery for a 40 km drive. With a 12% charging loss, charging takes 7.8 kWh from the meter and lasts 40 minutes on an 11 kW wallbox. An ID.3 Pro (2024–2026) needs 6.5 kWh for the same drive.

The older e-Golf (2014–2016) and e-up! (2013–2019) charge from a single phase at only 3.7 kW. The same 40 km charge takes them two hours and a full charge from empty 5–6 hours, so choosing the cheapest slot matters especially. Newer e-Golfs charge at 7.2 kW, ID models mostly at 11 kW.

There are 617 Volkswagen electric cars registered in Estonia (Transpordiamet, 01.09.2026). Battery and consumption data for the models come from EV Database.

What time is it cheapest to charge a Volkswagen at home?

It depends on the day, because the spot price changes every 15 minutes. The calculator shows today’s and tomorrow’s cheapest time from the published prices. At night the Võrk 2 and Võrk 4 network packages have a lower network fee.

How long does it take to charge an e-Golf at home?

The older e-Golf charges at 3.7 kW, the newer one at 7.2 kW. The calculator shows how long charging takes for your variant and home connection.

How do I set the charging start time on a Volkswagen?

In the Volkswagen app, set the charging start to the time shown by the calculator.

Does the price include the network fee?

Yes. The price is the final price: spot price, seller’s margin, network fee, electricity excise, renewable energy fee and VAT. You can choose your own package and contract in “My settings”.
